The School of Resources and Environmental Engineering of Wuhan University of Science and Technology covers four first-level disciplines: Mining Engineering, Safety Science and Engineering, Environmental Science and Engineering, and Geography. It has two first-level discipline doctoral programs in Mining Engineering and Safety Science and Engineering, as well as a second-level discipline doctoral program in Mining and Metallurgical Environmental Engineering. Among them, Environment/Ecology and Earth Sciences have entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. Two postdoctoral research stations, namely those for mining Engineering and safety Science and Engineering, have been established. It has three first-level discipline master's degree programs in mining Engineering, Safety science and Engineering, and environmental science and engineering, a second-level discipline master's degree program in geotechnical engineering, and a master's professional degree authorization point in the field of resources and environment. The discipline of Mining engineering has been selected as a world-class discipline by Shanghairanking (ranked 51st to 75th in the world) and has been included in the "Double First-Class" domestic first-class discipline construction of Hubei Province. The college has 122 staff members, including 97 full-time teachers, 46 professors, 40 associate professors and 25 doctoral supervisors. Among the teachers, nine enjoy special government allowances or have been recognized as outstanding middle-aged and young experts with significant contributions in Hubei Province. Among them, there are 4 national-level talents, 27 provincial-level talents, 2 groups funded by the Natural Science Foundation of Hubei Province, 7 provincial outstanding young scholars, 3 provincial outstanding young scholars, and 15 provincial Hundred Talents Program and Chutian Scholars. The college offers six undergraduate programs: Mining Engineering, Intelligent Mining Engineering (enrolling students starting in 2025), Geographic Information Science (a science major, ceasing enrolling students in 2025), Mineral Processing Engineering, Safety Engineering, and Environmental Engineering, as well as a double bachelor's degree program in Intelligent Extraction of Resources and a pilot class for Mineral Processing Engineering (National Program for the Education and Training of Outstanding Engineers). Among them, the Mineral Processing Engineering, Mining Engineering, Safety Engineering and Environmental Engineering programs have all passed the engineering education accreditation of the Ministry of Education. The Mineral Processing Engineering, Mining Engineering and Safety Engineering programs are national first-class undergraduate programs, and the Environmental Engineering program is a first-class undergraduate program in Hubei Province.

The college houses the National Key Laboratory of Environmental Protection, Mining and Metallurgical Resources Utilization and Pollution Control, the Provincial and Ministerial Co-construction Collaborative Innovation Center for Strategic Vanadium Resources Utilization, the Hubei Provincial International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for Efficient Utilization of Vanadium-Iron Resources, the Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory of Efficient Utilization of Metallurgical Mineral Resources and Block Making, the Hubei Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for Efficient and Clean Utilization of Shale Vanadium Resources, and the Hubei Provincial Engineering Technology for Industrial Safety Research institutions such as the Technical Research Center.

In recent years, the college has won 3 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 second prize of the National Invention Award, and over 30 first prizes of provincial and ministerial-level invention and science and technology progress awards as well as other scientific and technological achievement awards. It has also been granted more than 200 national patents and undertaken over 100 national major and key research and development projects, national Natural science Foundation projects and other national-level scientific research projects. He has undertaken over 600 horizontal scientific research projects and published more than 20 academic monographs.

The Party Committee of the college was approved as one of the third batch of "National Model Departments for Party Building Work" (in 2022), and the Party branch of the teaching staff of the Department of Resources Engineering was selected as a "Double Leader" Party Branch secretary studio of National Colleges and universities (in 2021) and a special action team for the "Strong Country Journey" (in 2024).
